English Education Department Collaborates with EnglishOne Ponorogo to Enhance Students’ TOEFL Preparedness

Ponorogo, 26 June 2025 — The English Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP), Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo successfully held a practitioner lecture in collaboration with EnglishOne Ponorogo. This event marks the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between both institutions, which includes student teaching internships and regular practitioner lectures as part of the academic enrichment program.

The MoU was officially signed by Dr. Sutrisno, M.Pd., Dean of FKIP UMPO, and Neti Kusumawati, S.Pd., Branch Manager of EnglishOne Ponorogo, demonstrating a shared commitment to strengthen academic and professional synergy.

The practitioner lecture, titled “Get TOEFL-ready”, aimed to equip students with effective strategies to tackle the TOEFL exam. Held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the session was equivalent to 4 credits and covered the key components of the TOEFL test: listening, structure, and reading. The session was delivered by M.A. Syaif, Co-Director of EnglishOne Ponorogo, who presented the materials in an interactive and comprehensive format.

A total of 39 English Education students actively participated in the session, showing high levels of enthusiasm and engagement. Their active involvement contributed to a dynamic learning atmosphere, enhancing both understanding and confidence in preparing for the TOEFL.

This event was integrated into the Preparation of English Proficiency Test course, facilitated by Ibu Siti Aisiyah, M.Pd., and aligns with the department’s Outcome-Based Education (OBE) approach. By involving professional stakeholders like EnglishOne, the department provides students with real-world learning experiences that bridge theoretical knowledge and professional practice.

Dr. Elok Putri Nimasari, M.Pd., Head of the English Education Department, expressed optimism that this collaboration will lead to broader initiatives, such as joint training programs, guest lecturing, and community-based English outreach. “This partnership not only enhances students’ academic readiness and employability but also supports professional development for faculty and contributes to community empowerment through accessible English education,” she stated.

Through collaborative efforts like this, the English Education Department continues to reaffirm its commitment to producing competent graduates who are not only academically strong but also professionally prepared to meet the demands of the global workforce.
