The English Education Study Program of Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo (UMPO) and Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidoarjo (UMSIDA) have officially strengthened their academic partnership by signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) and an Implementation Agreement (IA), accompanied by the launch of a joint research collaboration on thesis supervision patterns.

The signing ceremony was held in a cordial and academic atmosphere, attended by leaders and representatives from both institutions. Dr. Elok Putri Nimasari, S.Pd., M.Pd., Head of the English Education Study Program of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) UMPO, and Dr. Fika Megawati, M.Pd., Head of the English Education Study Program of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FPIP) UMSIDA, signed the agreement. The event was also witnessed by Dr. Septi Budi Sartika, M.Pd., Dean of FPIP UMSIDA.

As part of this collaboration, the two programs initiated a joint research project focusing on supervisory patterns in undergraduate thesis guidance, where lecturers employ application-based approaches. The project is funded by BIMA Kemendikbudristek’s Research and Innovation Program (Kemdiktisaintek), ensuring strong institutional support for the research agenda.

The research is led by Dr. Elok Putri Nimasari, S.Pd., M.Pd., Dr. Bambang Harmanto, M.Pd., and Adi Fajaryanto Cobantoro, S.Kom., M.Kom. The team also includes four students from the English Education Department and two students from the Informatics Engineering Department, demonstrating the collaborative and interdisciplinary nature of the study.

The dataset used in this project is exclusive and not publicly accessible, beginning with approximately 900 entries and currently expanding to more than 4,000. The research process involves converting audio data into text, which is then analyzed using text mining techniques with the IndoBERT model. The success of the study is measured through the evaluation of the loss curve and macro F1 score. A consistent decline in loss values alongside improvements in the F1 score demonstrates the model’s effectiveness. This approach enables a quantitative and systematic evaluation of supervisory patterns, while also enhancing students’ understanding of how technology can be applied in educational research.

Through these academic and research collaborations, both UMPO and UMSIDA reaffirm their commitment to fostering synergy in developing innovative educational programs while upholding Muhammadiyah values in higher education. Leaders of both study programs expressed their optimism that this cooperation would not only benefit lecturers and students from both institutions but also contribute to the wider academic community.

With this agreement in place, UMPO and UMSIDA are confident that their joint efforts will bring positive impacts, enhancing the quality of teaching, research, and service to society.
